Supporting First Nations peoples, embracing diversity and inclusion. Animal Assited therapy/ Equine assisted Learning is a NON RIDDEN therapy. Sessions do not involve any horse riding activities. Many Children, young people and adults learn best through experience, and Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) clients are offered safe experiences with horses in order to develop awareness, learn life skills, and learn how they experience relationships. By building awareness of behavioral, emotional, and thought patterns that no longer serve them well, we learn more positive ways to live their lives. This is the essence of Equine Assisted Learning and therefore the essence of Equine Assisted Therapy. Our therapy programs have been developed to support you to feel grounded, calm and at peace in order to then scaffold on your current skill set and build resilience and a sense of control. The programs incorporate and range of activities which focus on goals you have identified. At P.A.A.T our Equine Assisted Therapy program focuses more on Early Intervention and behavior change and less on the counselling process or mental health diagnosis with the support of the herd. Sessions are integrated with ponies in a meaningful way based on client feedback. We also have the opportunity to work with a number of different animals depending on what you would like to experience. At our farm we have goats, dogs, ponies and even the odd tadpole! Themes that are common for many people to explore include: Dealing with stress Emotional regulation Coping with change Relationships Life challenges Emotional expression Resilience Mindset Communication Focus Feelings of being stuck Workplace issues Bullying Boundaries Grief Illness Challenging thoughts Confidence Leadership Anger management Living with disability Each session focuses on the client, the practitioner, and the relationship with the pony, animal or the natural environment while using an experiential approach to bring about change for you. Sessions are co-facilitated by a Specialist Early Intervention Teacher, Equine Experience Interaction practitioner and one or more ponies or animals in order to assist personal and professional development and growth for the client. |
Early Intervention Specialist / KEY WORKERMartha is the owner and Principal E.I specialist who has developed a unique Animal assisted / equine assisted program which meets the needs of the client by understanding and creating goals to support ongoing skill development through a strength based approach.
The approach supports best practice in early childhood intervention because it helps the child and family to build their capacity and supports greater inclusion in community and everyday settings, meaning each child will be provided with opportunities to grow and learn. Children develop best in supportive, responsive environments. Their physical, social and emotional needs and abilities vary, depending on what’s going on around them and where they’re at in their developmental journey. Understanding a child’s ecology – their relationships and the environments in which they live, learn, play, and grow – and how brains and bodies develop is an integral part of supporting healthy development and wellbeing. When coupled with a curious, respectful practice approach, this knowledge can help you to scaffold children’s learning and development and equip them with the tools they need to grow and thrive. If you or your child has an NDIS plan and are self managed- you are able to claim Equine therapy - Please see Fees page for more information |
